The 2009 ‘Campolongo di Torbe’ is a truly majestic wine, with tremendous power and intensity. This single vineyard cru Amarone is composed of Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara and made in the "appassimento" style (drying of the grapes) and bunches are dried on bamboo racks in farmhouse lofts in the vineyard, with natural ventilation. The grapes lose 35-40% of their weight during this process. As this wine opens it releases intense aromas of blackberry and dark cherry reduction along with exotic spices, violets, chocolate and espresso and touches of tar and new leather. On the palate this is full-bodied, powerful and densely concentrated with an opulent, mouth coating texture. It continues to deliver layers ripe dark fruits and exotic spices into the multidimensional finish. Overall, the 2009 ‘Campolongo di Torbe’ is a massive, towering wine, yet extremely well made, with wonderful aging potential. (Best 2020-2040) - June, 2016 (JD)
