This 100% Chenin Blanc comes from old bush vine parcels on three farms on the slopes of the Skurfberg ("rugged mountains") between Clanwilliam and Lamberts Bay in the Olifants River Region. The soils in the area are of decomposed sandstone, and very sandy and have not been subjected to herbicide or chemical fertilizers. As the wine itself opens it delivers expressive aromas of lemon zest, acacia blossom, honeysuckle and wonderful minerality which resonates through the wine. It continues to impress on the palate with its beautiful texture and lovely balance of fruit and acidity, which takes you into the very precise, mineral driven finish. An outstanding effort from winemaker Eben Sadie which is drinking beautiful upon release and should continue to do so for close to a decade. (Best 2015-2022) - December, 2015 (JD)
