An outstanding showing for Opus One in 2011, it immediatley opens up with ripe dark fruits, graphite, pencil shavings, dried herbs and a touch of fresh violets, which are all woven together beautifully. On the palate the wine possesses a wonderful sense of elegance, yet also displays excellent focus and depth. It remains structured and balanced with a touch of underlying acidity that provides lift all the way through the long polished finish. A fantastic effort by winemaker Michael Silacci and the entire team at Opus One to team to make such a great wine given the difficult conditions in 2011. The final blend consists of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec, which was aged in new French oak for 18 months. (Best 2015-2028) - November, 2014 (JD)
