2013 Top 100 - Rank # 13
This fantastic Pinot Noir is from the original Martin Ray Vineyard in Mount Eden, which was planted in 1979. It has incredibly complex aromas of rose pedal, currant, cherry, strawberry, macadamia nut, fresh asparagus, loamy soil and smoky minerals. The elegant structure is incredible, silky and caressing with a delicious blend of bright red fruit, very Burgundian. There is no doubt this is an age-worthy Pinot that is built for the cellar and still needs some time in bottle, so lay it down for at least a few years and then watch it evolve over the next couple of decades. The wine was whole cluster fermented with native yeasts, aged in neutral French oak barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Just a sensational wine, but there was only 7 barrels produced so there won't be that much to go around. (Best 2019-2030) - December, 2013 (MD)
