M. CHAPOUTIER Saint-Joseph 'Les Granits' 2010

top100-ico2013 Top 100 - Rank # 18
The 2010 is more of a opulent style for the Les Granits, but it still offers that wonderful sense of terroir that is typical from this bottling from Chapoutier. There is ripe and concentrated with amazing aromas of blackberry and sweet plums followed by cracked pepper, bacon, iron, spices, floral and stony minerals. The gorgeous rich texture is backed by muscular tannins and it displays fantastic balance and structure. Black fruits burst onto the long finish along with spices and peppery notes which also make an encore. This is excellent right now with some air contact and can be approached at an early stage thanks to all the ripe fruit, but it also has the potential to thrive in the cellar for decades.
