DARD & RIBO Crozes-Hermitage 2011

top100-ico2013 Top 100 - Rank # 64
In 1984, René-Jean Dard and François Ribo started making wine from their 1 hectare plot in a back street of Tain-l'Hermitage. They have expanded throughout the years to become a top producer in the Northern Rhone. Their Crozes-Hermitage Rouge comes from plots located mainly in Larnage, containing red clay with gravel and alluvial stones. This wine has a gorgeous and explosive nos, layered with crushed black fruit, milk chocolate, pencil shavings, leather, bacon fat, olives, plack pepper black tea, and violets. It's incredibly delicious and the fruit is pure. The finish is dry with some metallic undertones. Very approachable now, but could last another 7-10 years in the cellar.
