The 2017 Brilliant Mistake Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is an absolutely stunning release and one of the most impressive wines from the entire vintage. It is composed 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Petit Verdot which was sourced from vineyards in Rutherford, Oakville, and Pritchard Hill. As far as the wine itself it instantly begins to impress with its incredibally expressive aromas of ripe dark currants, black cherries and cassis along with tobacco, pencil shavings and hints of spiced mocha which all come together and burst from the glass. On the palate this possesses a fabulous medium-full body that is structured with gorgeous round polished tannins which give way to flavors of ripe blackcurrants, graphite and sweet spices that resonate through the wine. This has plenty of power, however there is a wonderful sense of elegance, as it is beautifully balanced and utterly seamless all the way though the supple finish. Overall this is a sensational wine that is drinking incredibly well today, however it should also age gracefully for years to come. Readers who are not yet familiar with Brilliant Mistake should make it a priority to taste. Owners John and Stacy Reinert have teamed up with one of Napa's most talented winemakers Maayan Koschitzky, to create a very special wine that should not be missed.
