Hailing from the Stillwater Creek Vineyard, the 2020 Damsel Cellars Syrah ‘Medusa' had everything in its right place. 50% whole cluster and spending 14 months in neutral French oak, this dense, inky offering made a bold entrance. Carrying a fine and enjoyable tannic structure, this mouth-coating effort showed blueberry, blackberry, and prune on the fruit side and star anise and soy sauce on the savory side. Super smooth and settled, double hickory smoked burnt ends showed mid-palate through the 40 second finish. This wines depth and integration was spot on, never missing a step. Give this bottle a year to settle and then enjoy this well integrated and constructed wine for 15+ years.
